Jesus Style Leadership/Parenting - Part 2
May 16, 2023In the previous stage of Jesus-style leadership, we recognized the fact that our kids are watching us, I do it and they watch. In stage 2 of Jesus-style leadership, it embodies the concept of:
"I do it and you are with me."
During this stage, disciples have the opportunity to closely observe and assist Jesus. The disciples of Jesus were privileged to witness His actions, character, and values up close.
They watched as He:
Performed miracles,
Confronted religious spirits, and
Demonstrated love towards sinners.
This stage emphasizes the importance of training and modeling values, as we impart wisdom and guidance to our kids.
Let's explore the significance of training in our families and personal lives, as we strive to lead by example.
Watching Closely:
As the disciples watched Jesus, they witnessed His every action and decision. They observed the way He handled various situations, demonstrating unwavering faith and obedience to the Word of God. They were even present when Jesus engaged in intimate prayer, which prompted them to ask Him to teach them how to pray.
What are your kids observing about you and your family and your family values?
Training through Modeling:
In the same way, as parents and leaders, we have the responsibility to train and model values for our families and those around us. Our actions and behaviors speak louder than words, shaping the values and beliefs of those who are with us.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to train up a child in the way they should go, assuring that they will not depart from it as they grow older.
Are you training them cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, spiritual disciplines, how to date, how to honor one another, how to communicate, how to handle conflict?
Just make sure you are training them in the ways of God. You can train them wrong. It’s about the training.
Values and Traditions:
Within our families, we establish values and traditions that shape our identity and character. We teach the importance of speaking kind words, showing love and respect, and participating in activities such as church attendance and serving others. These values become the foundation upon which our families are built.
Continuous Growth:
Training and modeling values are ongoing processes that require our commitment and dedication. We have to do it even when we are tired. The Bible even challenges us to not grow weary in doing good, but promises us we will reap a might harvest if we don't give up.
As parents, we must strive to continuously grow and improve ourselves, setting an example for our kids to follow. By prioritizing personal growth through prayer, reading the Bible, and participating in spiritual disciplines, we are modeling for our kids what is important in life.
In stage 2 of Jesus-style leadership, we recognize the significance of training and modeling values. Just as the disciples watched Jesus closely and learned from His actions, we have the privilege and responsibility to train and guide others in our families and communities. By leading through practical examples, establishing values and traditions, and prioritizing personal growth, we create a foundation for others to build upon. Let us embrace this stage of leadership and commit to training and modeling values that will have a lasting impact on those who are with us.
